Prince George, B.C. -      A new CT scanner has been installed at Prince George Regional Hospital.  This 64  slice  scanner is a temporary unit that will be replaced with an  advanced  scanner this fall.

The advanced scanner will be the first of its kind in British Columbia.

A CT scanner uses x-rays to take detailed pictures of internal organs. Physicians use CT technology for head, chest and abdominal scans to diagnose strokes, cancer, cardiovascular disease and organ function. Both the temporary and advanced scanners are cardiac-equipped, allowing PGRH to provide a new CT angiography service. Clinicians can order advanced cardiac imaging for patients presenting with chest pain. In clinically-appropriate cases, this may reduce the need for patients to travel to southern centres for cardiac imaging.

The project is valued at over $2 million.
